I am generally obsessed with all things France. I would live there if I could speak the language better — and, you know, if I could afford to. So, we are going to continue in the francais vein for a while, because Calvi, Corsica is another great location for a late summer, August vacation.

You can get all the best of the gorgeous French Riviera without having to spend the money, deal with the traffic, and shoulder through the ritzy crowds.

Calvi is a beautiful crescent beach right in Corsica, itself a stunning island. The beach is located beneath the island’s lovely hills — and better still, there is a free section as well as one for which you can pay.

From the beach, you can walk right to the historical old town as well as plenty of bars and restaurants.
