There are so many different cities in Iraq. Did you know that Iraq is actually the birthplace that started civilization about 9000 years ago? There are many cities in Iraq that have so much to offer, in Baghdad there are many Churches, Mosques, The Golden Gate Palace and the Surrounding Wall that faces in the North, South, East and West. Traveling to Baghdad is something special, albeit with the current security situation it’s probably not the safest idea…
Also in Baghdad you will find ruins of historic buildings like the Ike Abbasid Palace. There are museums like the Iraqi Folklore and the Modern Art Museum. If you want to see something really amazing, you must see the beautiful Tigris River. Another great city to see is Babylon, which is located just south of Baghdad. Here in Babylon you will find the famous Hanging Gardens near Mosul. The Hanging Garden is one of the Seven Wonders of the World.
If you are looking for something a bit more religious, try the cities of Kerbala and Najaf. There are many holy cities located around Iraq. They offer a chance to see what religion was like back then and what it means to the people of Iraq today. Noah the Prophet lived in Iraq actually from a city called Fara, which is southeast of Babylon. Imagine the history lesson you can get from there.
When you are traveling to Iraq, you won’t see sites like Disneyland or beachside resorts. You pretty much get religious artifacts and ancient art. You will get a lot of history and some beautiful countryside. There are some Churches and Mosques that are worth taking a look at. The city of Kurdistan is a relatively safe from violence. There are some great historical ruins located here.
In almost every site you see, there is going to be building that has been touched by the 2003 invasion. Again, more history, Iraq is like a field trip into the history books. You don’t go to visit Iraq for the sun and sand. Parts of Iraq look like huge dustbowls because of the common sandstorms that occur on a daily basis.
Before planning your trip to Iraq, take a look at a map of the country. Make a list of everything that you want to see and map out where you will stay and where you can get the most sightseeing done in the time you are there. But keep in mind that it is recommended that no one travels to Iraq especially Americans. It is not a safe country to be in.
