Chile, the world’s longest country stretches out 4630km north to south. It is a slender country with to the west the Andes and to the east the Pacific Ocean. The southern coast of the country is a labyrinth of fjords, inlets and canals, islands and peninsulas. The south of the country is densely forested and the Andes feature many volcanic peaks.
More to the centre of the country, the Lake District, is a region of river valleys, numerous lakes, wild streams and dominant volcano giants. Fabulous National Parks are located in this magnificent area: Parque Nacional Torres del Paine, Parque Nacional Quelat, Parque Nacional Vincente Perez Rosales, are just a handful of the numerous parks in the region. The Central Valley, close to Santiago, is the dominant and fertile region of the country. Famous Chilean wines are born here. To the north of the country we meet with the Atacama Desert, a desolate moon landscape facing the towering Andes. This region is rich in minerals, mainly copper and nitrate.
Chile’s most visited cities are: Santiago de Chile (the Capital), Viña del Mar (Chile’s most luxurious resort town), Punta Arenas (most southern city, overlooking Straits of Magellan), Antofagasta (largest city of the north, port, Beach Resort), Temuco (lake district, Mapuche land).
