When thinking of Peru, our first thoughts go to the ancient Inca Empire with cities like Cusco and Machu Picchu as prove of their power and greatness. The Nazca culture also left the world remarkable examples of their genius. The Nazca lines which can be seen in de Nazca Desert represent figures like hummingbirds, spiders, monkeys, and lizards. They could only be overlooked from Cahuachi, the ceremonial city. The Nazca fertilised the desert region by means of aqueducts. But many more ancient culturs developped in Peru: Chavin, Tiahuanaco, Wari, Chimu are just a handful of them.

The eastern part of the country however consists of the largest tropical rainforest on earth. Close to the Bolivian border, high on the peruvian altiplano, we find Lake Titicaca.

The bigger cities of the country can be found along the coastline. Lima (Capital), Arequipa, Trujillo are the three largest cities of the country. All three can be considered Colonial Historical Cities, worth more then just a quick visit. The city of Iquitos, located on the amazone river, can only be reached by boat or by airplane. It is an ideal place to start of on Amazone Jungle Tour. Iquitos was known for its rubber industry, some wonderful historal houses are the remainders of that period.
