The name of the city, Barcelona has been derived from theearly Iberian Phoenician Barkeno. Barchinona, Barchenona, Barçalona and Barchelona are some of the names Barcelona is known by in middle ages.

Located at an ideal location, Barcelona is situated on Iberian Peninsula’s northeastern coast along with the Mediterranean shores. Also known to be the capital of the Catalonia, Barcelona is also the seat for the Catalan government, called the Generalitat de Catalunya. With second largest port in Spain and the principal Mediterranean port of Europe known as Barcelona International Airport, Barcelona has become one big economic centre today.
